The little big world of macro is full of adventure colour and design. My first macro lens was the Canon EF-S 60mm. This lens really did perform quite well. Very sharp, light and a true go anywhere piece of glass, however it does not work on full frame. And the truth is that full-frame cameras give you enhanced depth of field and better colour rendition in lower light which makes them the better option for this type of shooting. So I decided to get the 100mm L version with image stabiliser. The truth is the non-L, non -image-stabilised cheaper Canon 100mm is optically a great lens, but I wanted the IS function since I don’t always have a tripod with me when the moment arrives.

Angle and lighting are very important for these tiny critters. Off camera flash seems to work best. Since having the 100Lmm I have found myself shooting much more macro, given the freedom that the IS brings.
